By |2008-10-05T15:13:15-07:00July 9th, 2006|Photography, PHP, Web|

As I stated in an earlier post - my new camera has prompted further development of joehallock.com. As you may have noticed above the random image up top, there's a new tab - Photos. Photos is a photoblog (a daily photo) that will run in parallel to ma voix. I've also set up an RSS feed (syndication). You can subscribe to the RSS feed and be automatically notified when a [...]

Frank Lloyd Wright Revisited

By |2008-10-05T14:46:11-07:00June 28th, 2006|Architecture, Design|

Last night I was on Apple's website browsing around for new toys, gadgets and other stuff that I don't really need to purchase. I stumbled on to their "Pro" section - an area where they show how professional content creators use Apple hardware and software to produce their work. I found this interesting piece on a Frank Lloyd Wright home that was recently finished 50 years after it was designed. [...]

New Nikon D70s hits the Hallock household

By |2008-10-05T15:22:33-07:00June 11th, 2006|Electronics, Photography|

I just purchased a new camera (well, Site Difference purchased the camera for me). It's the Nikon D70s - a near professional digital SLR with a 6.1 megapixel CCD, the ability to shoot 3 frames per second (up to 144) and two lenses - to name a few. The two lenses (a 18-70mm and a 55-200mm (made by Nikkor)) were bundled with the camera as part of a promotion. Of [...]

Solar Powered Lampion = Awesome

By |2008-10-05T15:14:45-07:00May 31st, 2006|Design, Electronics, Save the Planet|

This is solar powered lampion (created by Damian O'Sullivan) makes me happy. You can leave this outside - than later that evening use it for your lighting needs. This light is comprised of an array of 36 standard size solar cells (held together by an open spaced frame), each of which is connected to an LED bulb, which is fed by one rechargeable better. That was a mouthful. Solor Lampion [...]

My New Shoes

By |2008-10-05T14:47:03-07:00May 30th, 2006|Design, Web|

I've just designed my first pair of shoes - Hallock Air made by Nike. This is a little old-news, but Nike built this online ordering mechanism and product line called Nike ID (Individually Designed). If you're so inclined, you can go to the site (http://www.nikeid.com) and design your own pair of shoes. You can even put your own "ID" on them (see the second photo). Nike ID - Hallock Air [...]

User Experience Design

By |2008-10-05T15:15:39-07:00May 25th, 2006|Design|

I started a new job with Microsoft a few weeks ago - which I briefly mentioned in my Coachella post. My title, UX Designer, is a little difficult to explain. To help my friends and family understand what it is that I do, I thought I would post some descriptive information. User experience design (as a discipline) is described in the following summary written by Kirk Knemeyer and Eric Svoboda [...]

Erasure – Live in Seattle

By |2008-10-05T15:23:02-07:00May 14th, 2006|Music|

Since 1988 I've been an Erasure fan. I've collected just about every 12", 7", mini-cd, CD, DVD, VHS and digital download I could get my hands on. Last night Maureen and I went to the Show Box (a local venue) to see an acoustic only show by the two person band. This is interesting because Erasure (Vince Clarke specifically) is known for their work with electronic music. Vince was one [...]

Coachella 2006, Video Games, and a New Job

By |2008-10-05T15:16:53-07:00May 5th, 2006|Music|

I just came home from a week in La Quinta California. My good friends Ryan and Brian traveled with me to see the Coachella Music & Arts festival. Two days of music where surrounded by several days of video games, high-fat foods, Makers Mark and a whole lot of inactivity. The vacation had been planned for several months - which ultimately took place at a perfect time. Just before leaving [...]

Now this is an Alarm Clock that “rocks”

By |2008-10-05T14:50:07-07:00April 25th, 2006|Design, Electronics|

On-Off clock from Lexon I love buttons. It's really that simple. However, this new On-Off clock from Lexon just rocks to the off position - no buttons required. Designed by Nina Tolstrup, the On-Off LCD alarm clock can have its alarm activated by tilting it into the on position, and the alarm can be turned off by tilting the clock to the off position. Not sure how the snooze feature [...]

San Marino Grand Prix this weekend

By |2008-10-05T15:17:16-07:00April 21st, 2006|F1 & Autos|

It's been three long weeks since Australia, but the next GP is this weekend. This race, in Imola, is Ferrari's home race. In recent tests, they've stated with some confidence that they're ready to battle Renault for a victory. The F2005 When thinking about this post (before I wrote it), I decided to investigate how fast a F1 car is compared to a regular streetcar. I found this entertaining 3-minute [...]
