By |2008-10-05T15:03:13-07:00December 11th, 2006|Architecture, Design, The Future|

UCX Architects has designed a 19 floor tower (containing 98 residential units) that will sit in the Rotterdam harbor. The building has a large number of exterior terrace/garden spaces. It looks like an interesting place to live. Urban Cactus - Rotterdam Visit UCX Architects (may want to learn Dutch first)

Art on Furniture

By |2008-10-05T14:35:15-07:00December 8th, 2006|Design|

I found Ohio Design while looking for furniture last week. They sell several good pieces of modern (yet, eco friendly) furniture - but what I found most interesting is their service of printing images on the furniture. See the images below - and then visit their site: Ohio Design. Print on Furniture Small Type Link: Ohio Design

The images below show the six designs currently in the competition. Read the article at Spiegle.de (english version). RMJM of London Jean Nouvel [...]

UX Magazine / Tom Guarriello – Experiencing Experience

By |2008-10-05T14:43:57-07:00October 31st, 2006|Design, Web|

By Tom Guarriello - From UX Magazine "Experience" is the new "black." Very hip, very now. It's impossible to read any publication even remotely concerned with commerce and not find some reference to "user" or "customer" experience. As a psychologist who's spent over 30 years focusing on human experience, this newfound attention is fascinating. After all, for most of the 19th and 20th centuries, what mattered most about people were [...]

Before you read this post - please note that it's long - but interesting. This is the second post in a series that details visions of the future (from the 1960's). In addition, you should know that content from this post was appropriatly borrowed from Wikipedia and the offical THX 1138 movie web site - see references at the end of this post. A Modern Home

By |2008-10-05T15:09:30-07:00September 18th, 2006|Architecture, Design, The Future|

This last weekend I spent several hours studying and examining the world of new modern homes. I've discovered what could be the next incarnation of home building - prefabricated, environmentally positive, highly designed homes. Basically, companies like Clever Homes, Resolution 4, Alchemy Architects, kitHAUS and Empyrean have designed model (or kit) homes. The bits and pieces are highly designed, well engineered and environmentally efficient. The consumers of these homes work [...]

Coffee Table Computer

By |2008-10-05T15:11:56-07:00August 10th, 2006|Design|

From the writers at Engadget - "Stephen Johnson's Coffee Table PC is featured in this month's issue of T3 magazine, and includes a TV tuner, a 160GB HDD, a special LCD for displaying the weather, and is liquid cooled to keep things nice and quiet. There's also WiFi for streaming your media wirelessly, but the $4,765 starter price tag is enough to send us scurrying back to the relative safety [...]

Frank Lloyd Wright Revisited

By |2008-10-05T14:46:11-07:00June 28th, 2006|Architecture, Design|

Last night I was on Apple's website browsing around for new toys, gadgets and other stuff that I don't really need to purchase. I stumbled on to their "Pro" section - an area where they show how professional content creators use Apple hardware and software to produce their work. I found this interesting piece on a Frank Lloyd Wright home that was recently finished 50 years after it was designed. [...]

Solar Powered Lampion = Awesome

By |2008-10-05T15:14:45-07:00May 31st, 2006|Design, Electronics, Save the Planet|

This is solar powered lampion (created by Damian O'Sullivan) makes me happy. You can leave this outside - than later that evening use it for your lighting needs. This light is comprised of an array of 36 standard size solar cells (held together by an open spaced frame), each of which is connected to an LED bulb, which is fed by one rechargeable better. That was a mouthful. Solor Lampion [...]

My New Shoes

By |2008-10-05T14:47:03-07:00May 30th, 2006|Design, Web|

I've just designed my first pair of shoes - Hallock Air made by Nike. This is a little old-news, but Nike built this online ordering mechanism and product line called Nike ID (Individually Designed). If you're so inclined, you can go to the site (http://www.nikeid.com) and design your own pair of shoes. You can even put your own "ID" on them (see the second photo). Nike ID - Hallock Air [...]
